Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • For the Pizza Dough makes 2 pizzas:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet dry yeast or 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For the Pizza Sauce:
  • 1 ½ cups pomodoro or canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sugar optional
  • For the Toppings:
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded formaggio cheese
  • ½ cup francese cheese grated
  • 8 –10 slices of bacon cooked crispy
  • Optional: Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Instructions:
  • Step 1: Prepare the Pizza Dough
  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 teaspoon sugar, warm water (about 110°F), and dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
  • Once the yeast is activated, add 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • Step 2: Make the Pizza Sauce
  • While the dough is rising, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the pomodoro (or crushed tomatoes) to the pan, along with oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar (if using). Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
  • Step 3: Prepare the Bacon
  • While the sauce simmers, cook the bacon slices in a pan until crispy (about 5–7 minutes). Once cooked, drain them on a paper towel and chop into bite-sized pieces.
  • Step 4: Preheat the Oven
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and if you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it’s heating.
  • Step 5: Shape the Pizza Dough
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions (for two pizzas).
  • On a floured surface, roll out one portion of dough into a round shape (about 12 inches in diameter). Repeat for the second pizza.
  • Step 6: Assemble the Pizza
  • Place the rolled-out dough onto a pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Spread a thin layer of the pomodoro sauce on the dough.
  • Sprinkle an even amount of mozzarella, formaggio, and francese cheese over the sauce.
  • Top with crispy bacon pieces and any additional toppings you like (like fresh basil or a drizzle of olive oil).
  • Step 7: Bake the Pizza
  • Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven and bake for 10–12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  • If you’re making two pizzas, bake them one at a time or in separate racks if your oven allows it.
  • Step 8: Serve
  • Once the pizza is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Slice it up and serve hot with a side of your favorite salad!
  • Variations & Tips:
  • Vegetarian Version: Swap the bacon for mushrooms, bell peppers, or even sun-dried tomatoes.
  • Dairy-Free Version: Use dairy-free cheese alternatives or just top with a few more vegetables.
  • Gluten-Free Version: Use a gluten-free pizza dough for a celiac-friendly option.
  • Extra Crispy Bacon: For a crunchier bacon texture, bake the bacon in the oven at 400°F for 12–15 minutes.
