Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Mixing bowl, rolling pin, baking sheet or pizza stone, oven

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • For the Dough:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • For the Topping:
  • 1 cup Gorgonzola cheese crumbled
  • ½ cup walnuts roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional
  • Fresh arugula or rocket leaves for garnish
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Method
  • Step 1: Prepare the Dough
  • Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Combine Ingredients: Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour. Mix until a dough begins to form.
  • Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  • Step 2: Prepare the Topping
  • Prepare Walnuts: While the dough is rising, roughly chop the walnuts and set aside.
  • Crumb the Cheese: Crumble the Gorgonzola cheese and keep it ready.
  • Step 3: Shape and Top the Pizza
  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
  • Shape the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out to your desired thickness (about ¼ inch thick).
  • Transfer to Baking Sheet: If not using a pizza stone, transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Add Toppings: Drizzle olive oil over the surface of the dough, then scatter the crumbled Gorgonzola and chopped walnuts evenly across the pizza. If desired, drizzle with honey for a touch of sweetness.
  • Step 4: Bake the Pizza
  • Bake: Place the pizza in the preheated oven (or on the heated pizza stone) and bake for 12–15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  • Garnish: Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Garnish with fresh arugula and cracked black pepper.
  • Step 5: Slice and Serve
  • Slice the Pizza: Cut the pizza into slices and serve hot. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors!
  • Variations
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use a gluten-free pizza crust mix to cater to dietary restrictions.
  • Vegetarian Twist: Add additional toppings like sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions for extra flavor.
  • Different Cheeses: Experiment with other creamy cheeses like blue cheese or goat cheese for a different taste.
