Method
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until frothy.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
Combine Ingredients: Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour. Mix until a dough begins to form.
Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Topping
Prepare Walnuts: While the dough is rising, roughly chop the walnuts and set aside.
Crumb the Cheese: Crumble the Gorgonzola cheese and keep it ready.
Step 3: Shape and Top the Pizza
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
Shape the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out to your desired thickness (about ¼ inch thick).
Transfer to Baking Sheet: If not using a pizza stone, transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Add Toppings: Drizzle olive oil over the surface of the dough, then scatter the crumbled Gorgonzola and chopped walnuts evenly across the pizza. If desired, drizzle with honey for a touch of sweetness.
Step 4: Bake the Pizza
Bake: Place the pizza in the preheated oven (or on the heated pizza stone) and bake for 12–15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
Garnish: Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Garnish with fresh arugula and cracked black pepper.
Step 5: Slice and Serve
Slice the Pizza: Cut the pizza into slices and serve hot. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors!
