Step-by-Step Method
Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside to cool completely. This will be used to dip the ladyfingers.
Make the Cream Mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until fully incorporated and smooth. Be careful not to overmix.
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Then, gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until combined. This will create a light and airy texture.
Assemble the Tiramisu
Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not overly soggy.
Arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of the baking dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.
Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and cream mixture, finishing with the cream layer on top.
Chill the Dessert
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This resting time allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
Serve
Before serving, dust the top generously with cocoa powder using a sifter or fine mesh sieve. Cut into squares and enjoy!
