Instructions
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your cake pan with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Step 2: Prepare the Apples
Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. You can toss them with a bit of lemon juice to prevent browning.
Step 3: Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in the vanilla extract and milk until combined.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix!
Step 4: Assemble the Cake
Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
Layer half of the apple slices over the batter, and then pour the remaining batter on top.
Arrange the remaining apple slices on the top layer, overlapping slightly for a beautiful presentation.
Step 5: Bake the Cake
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to stand in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 6: Serve
Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon if desired. Slice and enjoy.
